What we repair

Certified technicians, all major brands, parts on the truck

Our certified NFI technicians repair direct-vent gas fireplaces, fireplace inserts, gas log sets, and gas stoves. We handle the problems that keep your fireplace from working: units that won't ignite, pilot lights that go out immediately after lighting, flames that look wrong or lift off the burner, unusual smells coming from the firebox, glass that's turned cloudy or hazy, and strange noises when the unit is running.

We also replace broken glass, damaged valves, worn thermocouples and thermopiles, failed ignition systems, and malfunctioning remote controls or wall switches.

If your model is discontinued or parts are unavailable, we'll tell you during the diagnostic visit and explain your replacement options. No guessing, no surprise second trip.

How we work

A fireplace that will not light is not a mystery. It is a measurement. We arrive with the manometer, the combustion analyzer and the common parts already on the truck.

Safety first

When to stop using your gas fireplace

Stop using your gas fireplace immediately and call for service if you smell gas, even faintly. It indicates a leak that requires professional repair before you operate the unit again.

Yellow or orange flames

Normal flames burn blue. Yellow or orange is a sign of incomplete combustion that can produce carbon monoxide.

Heavy soot buildup

Excessive soot on the glass or logs means the fuel isn't burning cleanly and the unit needs inspection.

Cracked or broken glass

Damaged fireplace glass compromises the sealed combustion chamber and must be replaced, not patched.

CO detector activates

If your carbon monoxide detector sounds while the fireplace is running, shut the unit down and keep it off.

Pilot won't stay lit

A pilot that drops out repeatedly signals a failing safety component, a draft issue, or a dirty assembly.

Popping, hissing or sudden soot

These mean something has changed in how the unit operates, often a misaligned burner or a blocked vent.

These warning signs typically indicate problems like a misaligned burner, blocked vents, or failing components, which our technicians diagnose during a service visit. But they mean the fireplace should stay off until we've inspected it.

If you notice a gas odor

  1. Open windows.
  2. Turn off the gas supply to the fireplace if you can reach the shutoff valve safely.
  3. Leave the house and call your utility company first.
  4. Once they've confirmed the area is safe, contact us to schedule the repair.

For the other warning signs, simply turn off the fireplace and keep it off until we've completed the diagnostic inspection and addressed whatever's causing the problem.

How the visit works

Our gas fireplace repair process

When you schedule service, our technicians arrive with the tools and common replacement parts to diagnose and complete most repairs in a single visit.

1

Diagnostic inspection

We start with a visual inspection of the firebox, burner assembly, glass and gasket condition, and venting system, looking for soot buildup, lifting flames, cracked components, and signs of incomplete combustion that may not be visible when the unit is off. A manometer measures gas pressure at the valve and burner to verify it matches manufacturer specifications. Low pressure causes weak flames, high pressure creates safety hazards. If pressure is off, we adjust the regulator. This is one of the few problems that looks like a failed part but is actually an easy fix, so we always test it before ordering a replacement. A combustion analyzer tells us whether the unit is burning clean, because incomplete combustion is invisible to the eye but shows up instantly on the meter.

2

Cleaning and adjustment

We clean the burner ports, pilot assembly, and firebox to remove buildup that blocks airflow and causes sooting or flame problems. Glass is cleaned inside and out, logs are repositioned to manufacturer specifications, and we vacuum out dust from the control compartment. The air shutter is verified and adjusted if needed. This controls the flame pattern and prevents lifting flames that indicate poor combustion.

3

Repair or replacement

If a component has failed, whether that's the thermopile, valve, ignitor, remote receiver or glass gasket, we replace it on site when parts are available. We test each repair before closing up the unit to confirm proper operation and verify no gas leaks exist at any connection point.

4

Final testing

Before we leave, we run the fireplace through a full cycle: pilot ignition, burner ignition from both the remote and manual controls if applicable, flame pattern under different settings, and shutdown. We confirm the unit operates safely, efficiently, and the way it should throughout the heating season.

Straight answers

Repair or replacement: what to expect

Not every gas fireplace can or should be repaired. During the diagnostic inspection, our technicians assess whether repair makes practical sense for your unit.

Repair usually wins

Newer units, available parts

  • The unit is under roughly fifteen years old.
  • The manufacturer still supplies the failed component.
  • The fault is a thermopile, valve, ignitor, gasket or remote receiver.
  • Pressure or air shutter adjustment resolves the symptom.

For newer units or those with readily available parts, repair is usually straightforward and cost-effective.

Replacement may be smarter

Older units, discontinued parts

  • The fireplace is over fifteen years old and parts are discontinued or expensive to source.
  • A major component has failed, such as the valve, burner assembly or control module.
  • The manufacturer has exited the market or the model was discontinued years ago.
  • Parts and labor start to approach the cost of a new installation.

We'll explain what the repair would involve, whether parts are available, and how the cost compares to installing a new, more efficient model.

We tell you honestly during the service visit if replacement is the better option. Our goal is to give you the information you need to make the right decision for your home and budget, not to sell you something you don't need.

Prevention

Why annual maintenance prevents repairs

Annual servicing catches small problems before they turn into costly repairs. A dirty pilot assembly that needs cleaning during maintenance becomes a failed ignition system that requires an emergency visit if left until the fireplace won't start. Regular inspection identifies worn thermocouples, corroded gas valve connections, and clogged burner ports while they're still minor adjustments rather than part replacements.

The technician measures gas pressure, tests flame pattern, and checks for early signs of component wear during each visit, which extends the lifespan of the unit and keeps efficiency high. Most service issues we repair started as conditions a homeowner wouldn't notice but an annual inspection would have flagged months earlier.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

Annual servicing is recommended for all gas fireplaces. A yearly inspection catches small problems, like a dirty pilot assembly or a worn thermocouple, before they turn into safety hazards or leave you without heat during winter. Regular service also keeps your unit running efficiently, which saves on fuel costs and extends the lifespan of your fireplace.

A pilot light that won't stay lit is usually caused by a faulty thermocouple, a clogged pilot orifice, or a draft issue in the venting system. The thermocouple is a safety device that senses whether the pilot flame is present. If it's worn out or positioned incorrectly, it shuts off the gas supply. These are common problems and typically straightforward repairs.

Cloudy glass is usually caused by sulfur deposits from the gas burning with insufficient air, or by minerals in the gas supply bonding to the hot glass surface. Over-firing the unit or incorrect log placement can also trap moisture and combustion byproducts against the glass. Cleaning removes the film, but fixing the underlying cause, whether that means adjusting the air shutter, repositioning the logs, or replacing a worn gasket, is what keeps the glass clear.

We service gas fireplaces for which replacement parts can be sourced. This includes most major manufacturers like Heatilator, Heat & Glo, Mendota, Napoleon, Regency, Jøtul, Avalon, Lopi, and Quadra-Fire. If your model is discontinued or parts are unavailable, we'll let you know during the diagnostic visit and explain your replacement options.

A repair visit starts with a thorough diagnostic inspection: we test ignition, check gas pressure with a manometer, inspect the burner and pilot assembly, look for leaks, and verify that the venting system is clear. We then clean the components, replace or adjust any faulty parts, and test the unit to confirm it's operating safely and efficiently before we leave. Most repairs are completed in a single visit when parts are available.

Our technicians are trained and equipped to service gas fireplaces safely, following manufacturer specifications and local codes. We handle diagnostics, part replacement, pressure adjustments, and safety testing on all service calls. If you have questions about qualifications for your specific unit or local permit requirements, we're happy to discuss those before scheduling your service.

For routine repairs, scheduling depends on the season. We're busiest in fall and early winter when homeowners are getting fireplaces ready for use, and appointments may run one to two weeks out. If you smell gas or your carbon monoxide detector has activated, shut off the gas supply immediately, open windows, leave the house, and call your utility company first. That's a gas emergency requiring immediate utility response. Once the utility has cleared the home, contact us to schedule the fireplace repair. We'll get you back on the schedule as soon as possible.
